(More customer reviews)Probably like a lot of parents, I sought out this product after seeing an ad for it in a popular parenting magazine. At the time that I ordered it, I couldn't find a single review for it online, and very few details about it, so I will try to be as complete as possible here.
Materials:
It's difficult to tell from the photos, but the Air Play is a heavyweight denim material, very durable. The sewn parts and seams are tight and it is well-made. A long strip of velcro runs along the open part of the sleeve. When not in use, the product folds inside out and in half and there are two nylon carrying handles, so it can actually be carried in your hand or over your shoulder--this was a pleasant surprise that I hadn't seen mentioned anywhere and makes the product far more handy in my opinion.
Toys:
On one side, there is a large button with attached flower, an oversized zipper, a buckle, a crinkle strip with a velcro squeaky toy in a pocket, and a pocket with 3 velcro shapes on it.
On the other side, there is a string with 4 waffle balls, a net pocket with a soft plush rattle dog in it, a photo album with room for 4 photos, and a flap with a mirror beneath it and a velcro star attached to the flap.
Experience:
I purchased this product for a plane trip with my 9 month old daughter. She traveled on my lap, so I wanted her to stay happy! As has been mentioned by another reviewer, even with the velcro toys detached, the tray table will not close with Air Play on it, despite this being one of its intended purposes--the zipper and buckle stick out too far and most tray tables fasten too tightly to the seat back. That said, I still found the product to be invaluable. I simply flipped it over when she seemed to be tiring of one side. Her favorite toys were the buckle and photo album.
After reaching our destination, I also used Air Play to keep her entertained during an hour-long church service, so parents looking for a quiet activity station for their youngsters should consider this product.
Air Play keeps my daughter entertained for fairly long stretches of time, but I tried it out with my friend's 18-month old and he tired of it quickly, so I think it's more suited to younger infants/toddlers.
All in all, I am pleased with the product--my one criticism being that I can't leave it on during take-off and landing when the tray table has to be up.
UPDATE (6/23/2010): My daughter is now 13 months and we've used this on many airlines--American, United, Allegiant, and US Airways, and the only tray table that would close with Air Play on it was on US Airways. Still, she likes playing with it and I just put it away for take off and landing or let her play with it in her lap at that time.
